Grissom AIr Reserve Base Golf Club is a public, 9 hole golf course located in Grissom Air Reserve Base, Indiana, about 12 miles north of Kokomo. The base was named in memory of astronaut and Indiana native Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, who, along with fellow astronauts Ed White and Roger Chaffee, perished in the Apollo I fire at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Launch Complex 34 in 1967.
The facility was established as Naval Air Station Bunker Hill in 1942. It became an active Air Force Base from 1954 to 1994. Since then it is a joint-use civil airport/military base.
The Grissom AFB Golf Course first opened for play in 1962.
This is a fairly flat course with one water hazard that comes into play on three holes. The greens are flat and very large.
The most difficult hole is #4, a 442-yard, par 4, which has out-of-bounds stakes to the left and to the back of the green. In addition, this hole has a dogleg left fairway with sand bunkers on both sides and a tree in front of the green.
Blue tees: par-35, 3,043 yards
Red tees: par-35, 2,680 yards

This is the 2nd nine hole course with a 18 hole (71 par) set of tees that I've played and I kinda like the concept. In 2.5hrs walking 9 holes for $10, I played first ball from 3,140yd front 9 tees and second ball from back 9 2,955yd tees shooting 39/36 w/32 putts on a flat, windy airport based layout. Very easy walking the one (1) loop (no hills) and the two sets of tees added a different layout approach to four of the holes than just added length. Conditions were a surprise in being very good and all greens rolled very true while being protected in the front by sand traps on every hole. My thinking has changed in using these type of layouts to maximize practice time in different looks/shots at the same hole. Very open in the afternoon for fast play with short walks between holes/tees, practicing various length shots at your own pace. When I finished playing my one (1) loop 18 holes I gave the starter the extra $5 for walking and playing 18 holes for a $15 total. (Price for 18 w/ cart is $25)
